Prepare to strike for fair pay and for all SAS doctors to be fully valued
Earlier this month, we extended the deadline for talks with the Government in the hope of arriving at an improved offer for SAS doctors on all contracts. However, that deadline has now passed and although progress has been made, a revised offer has not been agreed. This means SAS doctors must now prepare to take strike action while discussions with the Government continue.
Preparing for strike action
We encourage all SAS doctors get strike-ready:
- Update your details
- Remind SAS colleagues to join the BMA
- Sign up to be a pay campaigner to help promote action in your workplace
- Order campaign materials
- Start preparing financially. You may want to consider picking up locum shifts or cutting back on some expenses if possible.
Ongoing negotiations
Talks with the Government will continue while SAS doctors prepare for the possibility of strike action. We are still pushing for a credible way to fix the Government’s previous offer, which would include SAS doctors on closed contracts, and remain hopeful a deal can still be reached. Strike action is not inevitable, even at this stage.
BMA strike fund
A strike fund is available to subsidise members in serious financial difficulty who otherwise couldn’t afford to take part in strike action.
The strike fund is supported through voluntary donations to make available to doctors in need.
